Last year approximately 1,300 Ontarians received organ transplants. Donations from the deceased are on the rise, and yet every three days someone in the province dies waiting for a life-saving transplant. Only one in three Ontarians has registered their consent for organ donation. The Agenda talks to physicians, donation experts – and a recipient who received a 15 year-old’s heart – about their experiences, the transplant process, presumed consent, families overriding wishes, and why some people are hesitant to donate.
